My power doesn’t come from controlling others. It comes from remembering that I always have a choice in how I respond.
July 26
A lot has changed for me as I am healing.
I used to think personal power meant speaking louder, standing firmer, or proving my point. I used to repeat myself in attempts to be heard.
Now I think it often looks much quieter.
It looks like listening without needing to convince.
Walking away when something no longer feels loving.
Returning only when my heart feels settled.
Saying “yes” with integrity.
Saying “no” without guilt.
I’ve learned that no one can truly take my power.
But I can unknowingly hand it away when I believe someone else’s approval determines my worth, or when I abandon myself to keep the peace.
Every difficult interaction has become an invitation to ask:
What is this showing me about myself?
Not as self-blame.
As self-understanding.
Healing has also taught me that forgiveness begins within.
Sometimes I need to forgive someone else.
Often I need to forgive myself.
For the beliefs I carried.
For the ways I tried to survive.
For not knowing then what I know now.
Love has room for all of it.
I’ve also discovered that changing my life isn’t about pretending painful experiences never happened.
It’s about gently changing the way I relate to them.
As my inner world softens, my outer world begins to feel different too. I’m learning to let go of the stories and beliefs that once kept me stuck, and little by little, more light comes in.
I’m still a work in progress.
And that’s just fine with me... and with God.
One lesson continues to enlighten me:
Helping others is a gift.
But sacrificing myself is not.
The most authentic generosity flows from a full heart, not an empty one.
I can care deeply without abandoning myself.
I can give generously without losing myself.
That’s not selfish.
It’s one of the most loving things I can do.
Today I’ll choose to respond from self-respect rather than fear, trusting that every moment of honesty, forgiveness, and self-compassion is another step toward freedom.
Grounding Questions
Where might I be giving away my power instead of honoring it?
What would change if I responded from self-respect instead of fear?
How can I care for someone else today without leaving myself behind?
