September 11
I can trust what unfolds without requiring myself to understand it all at once.
There are things I understand today that I could not have understood while I was living them.
Perspective changes.
Wisdom grows.
Experience teaches me things I could not have learned in advance.
Sometimes I look back and wish I had known then what I know now. I may wish I had listened differently, trusted myself more deeply, spoken sooner, chosen differently, or understood something I simply could not yet see.
I can allow those feelings without turning them into evidence against myself.
I can wish I had done something differently without concluding that I should have known then everything I know now.
I can feel regret without becoming my regret.
I can acknowledge what hurt without deciding that I am defined by the ways I wish I had responded differently.
I can be honest and gentle with myself at the same time.
There are parts of me that still carry old feelings, beliefs, fears, and ways of protecting myself. When they arise, I don’t have to immediately correct them, clear them, or convince them that they are wrong.
I can become quiet enough to listen.
Sometimes what rises within me needs understanding.
Sometimes compassion.
Sometimes action.
Sometimes another perspective.
Sometimes simply a safe place to be felt.
I can receive myself too.
A heart can carry its breaks and still be a whole heart.
And I can understand myself that way too.
I don’t need to become untouched by what I have lived in order to be whole. The cracks, tenderness, scars, questions, wisdom, joy, grief, love, and everything I am still learning can all belong.
Wholeness does not require an unbroken story.
In fact, the breaks can become part of a beautiful tapestry of wholeness.
There is also so much available to receive beyond myself.
Love.
Beauty.
Support.
Connection.
Wisdom.
A conversation that arrives when I need one.
Something in nature that catches my attention.
A person who understands.
An unexpected opportunity.
A quiet inner knowing.
A moment that makes me curious enough to follow where it leads.
I experience God, Spirit, and Love in many of these moments.
Sometimes I receive clarity.
Sometimes I receive only the next golden thread.
I am learning that I don’t need the entire tapestry in order to follow what feels meaningful.
I can notice.
I can become curious.
I can take a step.
I can see where it leads.
And I can remain open to what comes next.
Trust does not require me to believe that I will always know exactly what to do.
There have been times when I desperately wanted clarity and did not have it.
Times when fear was loud.
Times when I questioned myself.
Times when other voices seemed more certain than my own.
Times when I made decisions with the understanding and resources available to me and later saw things differently.
I don’t need to believe that I will always receive a clear answer in order to trust that I am accompanied.
Sometimes guidance feels unmistakable.
Sometimes it is a whisper.
Sometimes it is simply the next loving thing I know to do.
And sometimes I don’t know.
I can let I don’t know be an honest place to stand.
I am also learning that support does not have to come from one place.
There are times when the person I would normally reach for cannot be there.
That doesn’t mean I have to close myself off or decide that I must do everything alone.
I can reach somewhere else.
I can call someone I trust.
I can seek people who understand something about the terrain I am walking.
I can receive support through meaningful work, community, prayer, meditation, creativity, nature, or quiet.
I can sit with myself.
I can walk among the trees.
I can allow myself to be held in ways I may not have expected.
I need myself.
I need connection.
I need Spirit.
None has to replace the others.
Part of caring for myself is cultivating relationships and spaces where I feel nourished, supported, inspired, and free to grow.
And part of caring for others is offering what I hope to receive: presence, curiosity, compassion, honesty, and room to be fully human.
I don’t have to know where every thread leads.
I don’t have to make meaning from every experience while I am still living it.
I don’t have to turn every painful feeling into a lesson before I am allowed to hold it with compassion.
For today, I can be present.
I can notice what is here.
I can listen.
I can receive.
I can follow what feels mine to follow.
And when I cannot see the whole pattern, I can hold the thread that is here.
Grounding Questions
Is there something I understand differently now that I can hold with more compassion than judgment?
What is here for me to receive today without immediately needing to explain, change, or understand it?
Where might support be available to me in a form I haven’t considered?
What is the next thread I feel drawn to follow, even if I cannot yet see where it leads?
